Since we’ve launched Purelix Wellness we’ve received a million questions (OK, maybe not a million but definitely close) about CBD. One of the most common is, “How does it make you feel?”. It’s an important questions that deserves a solid answer….so let’s talk about it so you’ll know what to expect when you try CBD.
What is the science behind CBD?
Before we talk about its benefits and how it will affect you and make you feel, it’s important to give you a little bit of science so you can understand WHY it works.
Throughout our body are minuscule tendrils called receptors that keep an active eye on all of your functions. As soon as these receptors recognize any sign of imbalance these nerve endings send messages throughout the biological systems.
Depending on what the message is, and the location of the receptor, the mind will interpret the message and its threat level. Based on this message, it will begin to show symptoms that negatively impact our everyday lives. Think “pain!” or “anxiety!”.
Any time your body encounters one of these imbalances, its natural instinct is to release things called endocannabinoids into the system. These endocannabinoids are incredibly versatile molecules that seek out the “in distress” receptors. After release, they are broken down by the body’s enzymes, travel to the cannabinoid receptors and ultimately change the messages from the “in distress” receptors back to the brain.
Unfortunately, as we age, our bodies gradually make less and less natural endocannabinoids. This decrease can be caused by our lifestyles, health related issues and prescription drugs. An endocannabinoid deficiency is thought to be at the root of many diseases and maladies.
Here is where CBD comes to the rescue. CBD is extracted from the hemp plant and in that hemp plant there are 113 known compounds called “cannabinoids”. These cannabinoids mimic the body’s naturally produced endocannabinoids mentioned above.
Arguably, CBD’s main function is to stimulate the endocannabinoid system and promote homeostasis, thereby reducing those sensations of pain, anxiety and inflammation. I know….it’s a bit confusing but, once you understand CBD’s relationship to your body and its functions, you can begin to see why so many people are using it and how much better it makes them feel.
Ok, but how will it make ME feel?
The answer to this question lies within the reasons you have to try it. The type of CBD and delivery method you choose also helps determine the experience you’ll have. Here are some of the reasons people swear by CBD:
CBD for Calm
Environmental stress or general anxiety are two of the main reasons many people take CBD. Outside influences, especially during these uncertain times, can take a toll even on the most even-tempered and calm individuals. CBD is also used by countless who suffer from general anxiety. Adding CBD to a daily routine helps in the moment but also, over time, users usually feel an overall decrease in stress and apprehension. Indeed, many people who suffer from anxiety use CBD in addition to prescribed anxiety and/or depression prescription medications. NOTE – Always speak to your doctor before beginning a CBD regimen if you’re currently taking prescription medication for anxiety or depression.
CBD for Pain
According to a Gallup poll taken in August of 2019, around 14% of Americans report using CBD products with most of them doing so to relieve pain. As we discussed above, the science behind why CBD works makes it a perfect method for combatting chronic pain. We have happy customers who swear by our broad spectrum products, finding great success battling conditions from arthritis to Lyme’s disease-related pain to Plantar Fasciitis. We even have a customer with MS who has found comfort as a result of adding CBD into her daily regimen. Purelix Wellness CBD Softgels with Curcumin are a particular favorite amongst our “over 40” patrons as the Curcumin, the active ingredient in Tumeric, adds an extra bonus in the fight against sore joints.
CBD for Sleep
50 to 70 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders and that number seems to be getting larger by the minute. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), about 1 in 3 American Adults do not get the amount of sleep they need to sustain a healthy lifestyle. Guess what helps with this? You guessed it, CBD! The use of CBD helps the body reach an optimal state of homeostasis while promoting healthy sleep patterns.
Other reasons for sleeplessness often include anxiety and pain and, as you now know, CBD works to diminish both of these afflictions.
CBD for Muscle Recovery
Exercise puts a great deal of strain on your muscles and ligaments, leaving you in pain. CBD topicals in cream or salve form are applied directly to the skin and, because they bypass the digestive system, go directly to the area in need of relief. Our CBD Salve offers the added “feel good” bonus of Lavender and Eucalyptus so the soothing elements get right to work, delivering our broad spectrum CBD benefits to your aching muscles.
CBD for Skin
Just as certain CBD topicals travel right to muscles and joints, so too does it work quickly when applied to irritated skin. Because CBD has strong anti-inflammatory properties, it quickly relieves itchy and painful skin. Skin has an endocannabinoid system, too, so CBD triggers healing properties when applied on the epidermis just as it does internally.
Recent studies show that it helps for acne, as well. When applied to active breakouts and acne-prone skin researchers found that CBD inhibits oil production and has an anti-inflammatory effect on oil-producing glands, resulting in less eruptions. CBD’s anti-bacterial properties are also successfully used to treat skin disorders such as psoriasis and eczema.
Our Unscented CBD Cream was formulated specifically to treat problem skin. It offers 250mg of broad spectrum CBD in a handy pump for ease of use.
Will I feel high?
Hemp IS a member of the cannabis family but it doesn’t have the same molecular composition as marijuana. You act and look differently than most (or all) of your relatives, right? The same thing applies to hemp and marijuana.
Marijuana is the female version of the cannabis plant and its main defining characteristic is that it produces an abundance of THC, which is the psychoactive element that makes people feel “high” after using it. Hemp, on the other hand, has very low concentrations of THC and, instead, is packed with tons of cannabidiol, or CBD. This male version of the cannabis plant doesn’t have the capacity to make the user feel “high”. In fact, just to be sure no THC is mistakenly ingested by CBD users, the federal government has determined that all industrial hemp must test for 0.3% THC or less.
Purelix Wellness goes an extra step and uses only broad spectrum CBD in our products. Broad spectrum, compared to “full spectrum”, has all traces of THC removed so you can enjoy the benefits of CBD without exposing yourself to THC.
We can spend all day telling you about CBD and explaining how it will help you and make you feel better but the truth is, each person experiences a different kind of benefit based on their chemical makeup. We offer high quality products in a number of forms so each and every person can choose their own unique CBD journey. If you’re not sure which type of CBD product would work best for you, we suggest trying one of our Purelix Wellness Sampler Packs. Each pack has a flavor of tasty gummies, a CBD topical and your choice of flavored CBD oil. We even offer a “Pet Chew” option for those with four-legged friends who need relief.
Whatever your decision, we know you’ll agree with the millions of CBD users all over the World…CBD works wonders!!
